What gives us the

factor?

Hi, we are Troy and Lara, the founding members of Paper and Pixel, Troy being the tech guru and Lara being the designer.

Both of us possess a different, yet complimentary set of skills, to each other, like opposing sides of the brain, you could say that if Lara was the paper, Troy is the pixel.

After having both worked within our own individual businesses for over a decade, we have decided it made sense to join forces to help Australian businesses succeed.

We have both had to wear many hats in our own sole trader businesses, therefore we come preloaded with lots of skills per person so you get loads of benefits even though we are a small team.

Being a boutique agency means we run a lean and agile business so you are getting big agency work without the big agency price tag.
We can call upon an extra set of hands when required therefore able to scale up or down when needed.

Our small size means you can speak to the person who’s actually doing the work, therefore cutting out the need for an account manager etc. and our turn-around times are lightening fast.

We love helping organisations deliver their marketing message to their audiences be it via content creation or digital systems or both.
We do this by guiding them and making sure we are communicating well with them along the way.

Our project approach

STEP 1. DEFINE THE ISSUE

For a successful project you need a solid grounding and base to start from. Here we meet with all the stakeholders and establish a design brief together via a strategy workshop. This step is all about obtaining a deeper understanding of your organisation, your offering and how we can help tell your story in the most effective way. This will allow us to give you our best and you to understand the overall process and what needs to happen to ensure marketing success.

STEP 2. INFORMATION GATHERING

We need to do our research into your market with your goals in mind, we look at your competitors, see best practices and apply them to your solution. We also conduct some visual research to see what does and doesn’t work in the market, because at the end of the day your marketing and website needs to bring customers through the “virtual” door. We will be asking more questions about your company, how you handle x and y what you think of different approaches, all to build a comprehensive profile about your business and what needs to happen to go to the next level.

STEP 3. IDEATION

Developing our ideas by sketching, brainstorming, conceptualising and
wire-framing. Here we start to build out your solution, which includes logo design ideas, branding, basic website layout via wire-framing, app look and feel, and social media design ideas. We do this by sketching, brainstorming and conceptualising what will work for you in the context of the market you are trying to reach. We will reach out and show you some examples, especially if re-branding. Here we will go through some iterations for you to find the branding that you are happy with and that will reach market in way that encourages sales/brand engagement.

STEP 4. DISTILLATION

Here we run closed tests for market to see how the branding works and how design ideas will function in a practical setting. This will involve reflection, polishing and editing down the message you are trying to send.

STEP 5. CLIENT PRESENTATION

When we feel that we have a solution that meets the client’s need then we present it to your and/or your team.

STEP 6. FEEDBACK

Gathering client feedback step, is where we invite your comments and thoughts and this may involve obtaining feedback from multiple stakeholders within the organisation.

STEP 7. IMPLEMENTATION

Implementing the client’s feedback and finally building the website, design or product to the specs required.

STEP 8. TESTING & APPROVAL

Market testing by us, the client and/or third parties to confirm all is in order and making any necessary final changes. Going live and/or print production.

STEP 9. ADAPTATION

Here we gather client feedback after the project has been implemented as well as present a sustainable plan to ensure that the approach/site/collateral can be used in the future with no issues.

This is us…

TROY SHANKS

SYSTEMS DIRECTOR

With a background in Sales, Troy made the switch to IT 12 years ago when he realised that people were asking him for technical help more than the actual IT team at his work. Troy’s unique ability to communicate technical problems clearly, allows his clients to make informed and educated decisions about their build, as well as to learn about the process of website design, this results in a better outcome for the client, while giving the company the skills on how to engage their customer base through digital tools. Social media is another big one that companies know they need, but don’t understand how to use to connect with their audience. Combining his sales training and skills with his technical skill set has allowed Troy to build a reputation as the Go – to person for digital strategy and tools. Troy is also a nerd from before it was cool and will happily tell you about the latest tech gadgets and trends.
